| A mixture of punk and hardcore music styles are the basis of the EMO subculture. The term "emocore" originates from emotional hardcore and dates back to the mid of the 1980s.
Founders of this music style added melodic features to their songs. Sadness, affection, sense of guilt are common topics of their tunes. So, the emo style could be defined as rock with emotional lyric features. Still, the definition of the emo style is still debated.
Even though the emo subculture was originally regarded as a music genre, these days it is referred not only to music, but also to conduct, clothes, hair style and the way of life.
The emo style is known as unfashionable. This way emo adherents show that they take no interest in all aspects of society. They prefer skinny jeans, commonly in bright colors, and tight t-shirts, with names of emocore bands printed on them. Typical accessories in the emo fashion are studded belts and black wristbands. Piercing is also popular among emo representatives. Black Converse sneakers are typically worn by emo adherents. Some boys also prefer thick black horn-rimmed glasses.
The emo fashion is also famous for its hairstyles. Popular looks include long side-swept bangs, often covering one or both eyes. Straightened and dyed black hair is also a part of the emo fashion. Hair is normally highlighted blue, pink, red, or bleached blond. Short choppy layers of hair are also typical. Sometimes this fashion has been characterized as a fad. At the outset of the 2000s, the emo fashion was associated with an immaculate look, but when youngsters stuck to the style, it became darker, with long bangs and emphasis on the color black superseding sweater vests.
Emos are exceedingly vulnerable people. Specialists regard them as introverts who do not want to communicate with the world around. Instead, they demonstrate their viewpoints by means of poetry. Poems they compose are full of sadness, nostalgia and desperation. Normally these emotions are characteristic of teenagers aged 12 - 18, when they are emotionally sensitive. For most emo adherents emoism becomes a way of life. |
