In a recent poll, acne topped the list of beauty calamities, distressing interviewees more than lines and wrinkles, or even a haircut gone badly. Acne, although preponderantly affecting teens, can happen at any age. Acne can happen on the face, neck and back. How to treat? At first, try out over-the-counter products containing salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is the most commonly used acne solution and is known as one of the most efficient ones in the market. If you are suffering from mild non-inflammatory cases of acne, benzoyl peroxide is known as very potent. Because it is safe for use on both adults and teens, it is preferred to other acne soultions. However, there are some minor side effects. It can bring on dryness in the skin. If you experience too much dryness, stop applying the treatment for some time and then, using a lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide, try again. Salicylic acid works best of all on non-inflamed forms of acne and it begins by exfoliating the dead skin, thereby keeping the pores of the skin pour and forestalling clogging. When nothing blocks the pores, your chances of getting whiteheads and blackheads decrease drastically. The side effect of this acne treatment is that it can cause skin irritation. Sometimes patients complain of a stinging or burning feeling, flaking or peeking skin and dryness. If there are no visible results in several weeks, ask your doctor about prescription acne treatments, such as antibiotics, retinoids (Avita, Retin-A) and adapalene (Differin). There are a few antibiotics that are prescribed by doctors as acne treatments for patients that suffer from moderate or severe acne. Antibiotics stop bacteria from growing and spreading in the body. Although results become visible quicker, antibiotics are usually not favored by patients, as they bring on side effects, such as dyspepsia, discoloration of the skin, lightheadedness and sensitivity to light. If you are suffering from severe cases of cystic acne, your doctor may prescribe isotretinoin (Accutane) or may refer you to a specialist. Because grave side effects are possible, men and women taking Accutane should be carefully monitored by their doctors. If other acne solutions fail, laser or light therapy may be used. Take the opportunity to have a pour radiant skin!
